TCN partners with GMF to launch Taiwan Frontlines as Bonnie Glaser and Jason Hsu decipher global geopolitics

In a strategic partnership to decode the complexities of global tech competition, TCN (Taiwan Current News) is proud to present "Taiwan Frontlines," a flagship podcast produced by the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF). The premiere episode features an exclusive interview with Chip War author Chris Miller, diving into the semiconductor landscape under the new Trump administration and the strategic "Silicon Shield" protecting Taiwan.

Hosted by Bonnie Glaser, Managing Director of the Indo-Pacific Program at GMF, and former Legislator Jason Hsu, the program aims to amplify Taiwan's voice. "Taiwan is a critical global node, producing over 90% of the world’s advanced chips," Hsu noted. "Through this collaboration, we aim to bring global leaders together to analyze these dynamics from a Taiwanese perspective."

The Truth of the "Silicon Shield": A Global Economic Lifeline

In the premiere, Chris Miller provides insights into the "Silicon Shield," describing it as a "structural dependency" of the global economy on Taiwan’s technology. As the world’s economic survival becomes increasingly tied to Taiwan’s security, the episode examines whether China’s state-led efforts to catch up can truly challenge this formidable barrier.

Taiwan’s Strategic Edge in the AI Era

Miller also points out that as the international landscape shifts, the bond between the U.S. and Taiwan has evolved from a traditional buyer-seller relationship into a deep intertwining of supply chain DNA. The global AI wave has further allowed Taiwan—with its complete vertical semiconductor industry chain—to seize a definitive strategic advantage.

The first episode of "Taiwan Frontlines" premieres on the NOWNEWS official YouTube channel on January 13 (Taiwan Time).
